Our Story

Irish Born, Chicago Made. We are sisters—and proprietors—Amy and Clodagh Lawless, the team behind The Dearborn, an American upscale tavern rooted in our Irish heritage and shaped by the dynamic spirit of Chicago. Hospitality has been part of our lives since childhood, nurtured in our family’s restaurant in Ireland and strengthened by more than 40 years of combined experience in the industry.

Since opening in 2016 on this vibrant corner of the Loop, our vision has remained simple: to create a place where guests can gather for a working lunch, a pre-theater drink, or dinner any night of the week. Our pride lies in crafting memorable food, cultivating an atmosphere of understated elegance, and offering the heartfelt Irish hospitality that makes every guest feel truly welcomed.

Our menu celebrates elevated American tavern cuisine—signature steaks, one of Chicago’s best burgers, and our beloved Fish ’n’ Chips, the very dish that beat Bobby Flay on Food Network. We also honor our adopted hometown with standout tavern-style pizzas, a nod to Chicago’s rich culinary heritage.

Inside The Dearborn, murals and leather booths pay homage to the city’s storied past, while our commitment to seasonal ingredients and scratch-made dishes keeps our focus firmly on the future. Each day, our incredible team helps bring our vision to life, ensuring every visit feels warm, welcoming, and uniquely Chicago.

At The Dearborn, we strive to create more than a meal—we aim to create a memorable experience, shaped by the people, the place, and the spirit that inspire us.
